BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ASSOCIATION

The Ghana Association of NSW had its humble beginnings in the late 1970s when a group of Ghanaian students formed the Union of Ghanaian Students.

During the mid-80s when the number of Ghanaians started to increase, the idea of an association to bring all Ghanaians together was mooted.

The founding members included Dr. Vincent Attuquayefio, Mr. Kwasi Owusu-Akyeampong and Mr. Solomon Armah.

In 1988, the association became incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act, 1984 governed by a constitution. The main object at the time was to help new Ghanaian arrivals to settle in New South Wales.
